Art the
Frog |
Despite Art's
generally passive outlook on life, he frequently finds
himself a reluctant participant in adventures. Art is a
'Cover Critter', a job which requires him to 'sit on a
pad in the sun' ten hours a day, five days a week.
"It's a tough job, but I make it look easy."
Art has a sarcastic streak; a creative bent; an I.Q. of
100; and large, floating eyebrows. Art once said it
wasn't easy to be him, but had to admit he'd never tried
being anyone else... |
 |
Bump
the Bullfrog |
Bump, a.k.a. the
self-professed "Great Bump on the Log", is
your everyday eccentric, amoral backwater guru. The
bullfrog has an insatiable appetite for knowledge. His
experiments have ranged in subject matter from hypnosis
to perpetual motion to teleportation to the refutation
of the Fourth Law of Aerodynamics. Asked once what his
I.Q. was, Bump replied it was incalculable... which is
possible considering Bump composed many of the available
I.Q. tests in use today. |
 |
Chub
the Toad |
Chub is
emotional, inconsistent, short-sighted, and temperamental.
His dedicated life's philosophy is "Ignorance
is...", and he doesn't want to know the rest. The
toad's two talents include the culinary arts, and
annoying Bump. While often falling prey to Art's whit,
Chub has the uncanny ability to hold his own in frequent
debates with Bump. In fact, Chub usually comes out the
victor, that is, the one without a migraine. "Any
day I don't learn something is another day someone else
has to worry about it." ...That someone else is
usually Bump. |
 |
Dart
the Frog |
Art's younger
brother, Dart is a despairing bachelor. He is
melodramatic and addicted to romance novels and playing
cat's-cradle. Dart spends most of his time in the park
sitting on a stone and wishing he had the courage to
talk to the she-frogs that pass by. Strangely, Dart has
discovered he's actually pretty comfortable with this
lifestyle... but that doesn't mean he no longer pities
himself. |
 |
Milton |
Milton is a
butterfly and Dart's best bud and just as single. While
Dart tends to be optimistic, Milton is unapologetically
a pessimist. Or, as he would have it, a realist. Milton
looks down on Dart's romance novels, but he himself is
hooked on the lottery. This is the one area where his
pessimism takes a backseat. He tells Dart he keeps
playing because the lotto people "owe me!" |
 |
Rosco
the Robin |
Rosco is a
flighty poet with 365 phobias (actually, it's 366 if you
count his fear of Leap Year). Rosco has two missions in
life: to motivate Art towards living a productive and
useful life, and to catch Edgar Woim. To date, he has
failed on both fronts... |
 |
Edgar
Woim |
Edgar is a
fowl-mouthed member of the 'pink-color' working class.
According to Edgar, the reason for his fowl mouth is his
general lack of other body parts to hold the
distinction. Edgar's job title is Senior Soil Digestion
Engineer. During his lunch breaks he spends his time
hurling abuse at Art, who Edgar sees as a distasteful
member of the oppressive ruling classes maintaining the
'Soil Ceiling' above his head. |
 |
Art's
Conscience |
Everyone has
one, and Art is no exception... except that his
conscience is external: a fly. The fly just showed up
one day. The conscience is a member of the WWCCMC (World
Wide Committee of Consciences and Moral Control), and
has risen to a level of some notoriety because of his
lengthy reports on his client Art. These reports have
become legendary within the WWCCMC, replacing much of
the Committee's teaching curriculum in later years. |
